of linear equations

An engineer might come into a situtation in which he has some large number N (e.g. more than 200) of unknowns and has at least N linear equations relating those to each other.
He can program this Orthodrop Method himself on his private computer and solve the system.
I invented the method, only to learn that John von Neumann had invented it about 50 years ealier. I still wonder why it did not get into textbooks. Perhaps the speedup step I invented for it makes it more practical?
